Oral Hygiene Tips for Kids

Posted .

Do you want your kid to have a top-notch smile and oral health? If so, your pediatric dentist, Dr. Thayne Gardner, is more than happy to help you give your child the teeth and gums they deserve. Today, he would like to give you the tips you need to care for your kid’s smile regularly. Those tips are:

-Clean their teeth and gums. You should do so by using a child-sized, soft-bristled toothbrush and child toothpaste. If your child is under three years old, don’t use fluoride toothpaste. Make sure to brush your child’s teeth twice a day (every morning and night). To find out if your child needs to floss yet, contact our office or ask at your child’s next dental appointment.

-Don’t let your child go to bed with a bottle or sippy cup of milk. This is recommended because giving your child a beverage other than water in bed can promote baby bottle tooth decay. This can affect your child’s entire oral health and it should be prevented at all costs.

-Bring them into our office for their checkups. It’s best to bring them into our office every six months so we can treat and examine their teeth and gums. These appointments can also give us the opportunity to give you specific oral hygiene tips you need to care for your kid’s teeth and gums.
